Occupational Safety and Health Management

The health and safety of employees across the STIHL Group is a top priority and an integral part of our culture. The Group has always attached great importance to sustainable health management, which fosters both personal satisfaction and productivity. With a comprehensive approach to health promotion and occupational safety, STIHL not only enhances physical and mental well-being but also ensures a secure work environment through targeted workplace safety measures.

Holistic health management

STIHL attaches great importance to the well-being of employees, in the interest of their long-term health, motivation, and performance. A key aspect of this commitment is holistic health management, which prioritizes both physical and mental well-being.

In the 2024 fiscal year, employees across the STIHL Group had access to a diverse range of events, presentations, and informational resources as part of health days and campaigns, covering topics such as resilience, healthy sleep, and nutrition. Additionally, the founding company in Waiblingen held a Skin Protection Day to educate employees on preventive measures and proper skin protection in their daily work. Individual and group measures such as strength and fatigue measurements, resuscitation training, and healthy cooking courses were also provided to actively promote health.

A special action day in 2024 focused on addiction and traffic accidents, aiming to raise awareness of preventive measures. At Plant 4 in Weinsheim, workshops were held on the consequences of traffic accidents and different forms of addiction, including substance-related addictions and problematic media consumption. Through practical exercises and discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the topic and learned to identify warning signs at an early stage.

Occupational safety campaign

The “Get involved” occupational safety campaign launched at the founding company in the previous fiscal year was successfully continued and completed in 2024. The aim was to actively involve employees in improving occupational safety and to develop new safety measures. Employees proactively recognized and reported potential sources of danger. Through the large amount of feedback, hazards within the plants were identified and eliminated. Key insights from the campaign include the effectiveness of regular discussions and site inspections, as well as the need for ongoing integration of safety topics into management communication. Seventy-four suggestions for improvement were submitted as part of the supplementary IdeaPlus campaign. This demonstrates how valuable employee participation is for identifying and improving safety standards and underlines the importance of an open and active safety culture.

Promoting electromobility

In 2024, the German founding company also invested heavily in promoting electromobility in response to the growing demand for charging facilities for electric vehicles. For example, 20 new charging stations were set up at Plant 4 in Weinsheim, which are powered by solar panels. By mid-2025, around 130 charging stations will be available at the German founding company to supply both company and employees´own vehicles with environmentally friendly electricity.

Award for the company cafeteria

Good food nourishes both body and mind. That’s why STIHL is especially proud of the “Taste the South” seal of quality, which promotes enjoyable dining outside the home. The seal was awarded to the STIHL cafeteria at the German founding company. Around 1,650 meals are prepared there every day by a dedicated team of 40 employees. The “Taste the South” out-of-home dining campaign was initiated by DEHOGA Baden-Württemberg in collaboration with the State Ministry of Food, Rural Areas, and Consumer Protection. An independent evaluation committee awards businesses based on certain quality criteria, recognizing their use of fresh, regional, and seasonal ingredients sourced from local agriculture. In addition, a large-scale survey on satisfaction with the food at the company restaurants was launched at the founding company in December 2024.
